Who would have ever thought as we began the Holy Season of Lent in this Year of the Lord 2020 that we would all, collectively, find ourselves "giving up" for Lent, the Holy Eucharist! Shocking as it is to all of us, the suspension of all Masses until April 6 by our Archbishop is to protect clergy and faithful alike. Although those of us coming for one hour on Sunday may be able to limit our exposure to the fellow congregants around us, the celebrant may have several Masses on a weekend. That means Father's exposure is multiplied many times over! Remember the old adage, "Out of something bad there is always something good?" We can each make something good out of this time away from our beloved churches and our celebration of the Holy Mass.
Use this time wisely for the gift that it is.
- Time for quiet reflection and lots of talking to God in prayer.
- Time for opening our Bible and reflecting on His Word. What is God saying to me in those readings? What would Father preach about this reading had I been at Mass to hear it?
- Time for intentionally making time for God on Sunday. Maybe even more than the one hour I am used to putting in each week.
Truly this is Lent. Truly our hearts will be yearning for Christ to come into our hearts as we anticipate the celebration of His Resurrection as never before!
